Final Chair Development

Here I began planning my final chair through modifying and adding new elements from my previous mock up design.

In total my design will consist of a total of 43 seperate peices and 231 cut notches. With this intricate detail and grid like structure I aim to have a base which provides a solid support for the top piece and that overall, the chair will hold my weight and be durable for a long period of time.

Construction Process

By this point I had saved and collected as many bike boxes as I could find because I knew that this project would need large enough and sturdy sheets. I found this to be quite difficult as it was important that the cardboards corrugation would allign with the direction needed for the pieces.  Here are a few photos taken while in the process of constructing.

Pre Cut Out.                                                                       Assembeling pieces of base.

Assembeling pieces of the seat.                                          Checking its form before continuing.

Completion

Some further photos....

In this photo you can see that it holds my weight and is at a comfortable height and arrangmnet for me.

My origional Plan for the chair was too compact down as shown in previous models. I tried this and due to its complectity It is not as efficent and does not fold down fully. In found that it would actually effect its structure by slanting. However the fact that the two peices seperate means that they are easily able to put up out of the way which meets my brief just
as well.

This photo of the two sections seperated reminds me of a mountonous landscape. This idea shown is a definition of my spatial verb 'Notch'.

The detail in this photo shows the notches almost overlaying each other like a reapeated featherd pattern. I belive it adds alot to the designs overall asthetic.

Overall In my opinion it is the pattern and rythmm of the grid like structure that makes my design stand out to be a sturdy, interesting and unique item of furniture.
